So after the crazy busy tour of Asia and The Middle East we had a nice round of "homely" gigs.... limerick, brighton, bristol, cambridge. Then a Talk at The Tate Modern in London, best round up being MC Rebbe's blog. Then we went off to the US to play at an EYEBEAM event with our good friend DJ Spooky. Was an excellent show with an ridiculous array of screens, about 15 i think. Footage of the gig to come sometime soon, includes a little AV Jam we did live with Spooky. The following weekend we gave a talk/little demo for Crossfader at the Remix Hotel NYC.
There is a currently a ZIP FILE up online and if you download it you can burn a bunch of files of latest eclectic method videos. Also check out Pioneer's DJSOUNDS website now features Eclectic Method DVJ Battle Breaks Loops in the DVJ Loops section. Our Loops include our first official release video acapella for Stella Attar's "JUMP"
Fully back from crazy ass tour whipping round the less likely corners of the planet. Hanoi was an extraordinary gig - really interesting crowd. There are apparently about five clubs in Hanoi, most of which are of somewhat ill repute, so the event was in the Fine Arts Centre. Seriously enthusiastic and welcoming crowd who were clearly both well happy the event was going on and confused as to what the hell we were up to.The breakers came out http://www.flickr.com/photos/eclecticmethod and the crowd came over to our side, got mad loose, thoroughly enjoyed it. Crazy motorbike city as evidenced by this video of a short ride to pick up a mixer. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v0C6PCcdRIA
Straight from Vietnam to the Middle East to do a series of parties to launch the new Mini Cooper which goes like the clappers, or so I hear. Started in Abu Dhabi, playing by a hotel pool - jammed with J-Live's DJ, who also plays with Masta Ace and Punchline & Wordsworth, whose band I'm yet to hear. Nice to jam around the place with different styles - Flow was dropping some of that Baltimore sound that's so freakin zeitgeist it stings your ears.Went on to Dubai, played on the roof of a carpark, surrounded by skyscrapers. Recorded J-Live soundchecking up there - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-6wO97kJE8 Then Bahrain - played a really good one in a club out there - J-Live getting on the mic, b-boys getting on the floor. Finished it all up in Doha, Qatar in a car showroom.
Shout to J-Live, Flow Fader, Odyssey - representing proper hip hop on the tour and with any luck getting into DVJ skills and appearing in DVJ videos real soon - and Mr Adam Hayes, the artist of the tour. Fine people.
Got back, caned the skump and Table Tennis on the 360 then hopped over to Limerick to play the revamped Trinity Rooms. It's an amazing place for such a small town - brilliant vibe, phat new sound system in the main room and an open minded, savvy crowd located in a town of 52,000. Johnny Moy & Arveen finished off the night in serious style, mixing up just about anything and receiving a well meaning stage invasion that seemed engineered to end the night perfectly. Johnny played at Big Kahuna Burger, my favourite club of all time and inspiration for the eclectic but dancefloor vibe that we represent. Again, good people.
Out in LA now, killing the laptop with new installs and taking advantage of the exchange rate in Amoeba - the greatest record store I've seen yet.
Boo yaa, pilgrims...
Wow it's so hard to sleep sometimes even when you have to. Not because anyone's poking us with sticks saying “don't sleep or something” just from pure entertainment. So we got of plane from Malaysia and went straight to Maison , the Club Lianna is at. Lianna is our old friend from KL, Malaysia from when we first played here 3 years ago. Since then we have always kept and in touch and it is in large part thanks to Lianna and the British Council that we playing Bangkok-KL-Hanoi in such convenient a path. The setup was easy and in fact soundchecking our equipment is becoming easier and easier, local pioneer crew usually have everything completely set up before we arrive, we usually only raise one DVJ for Ian because he so tall.
So we went to hotel to chill and then came back to watch Jason from Shynola talk and show some historic and amazing videos made by Shynola. It was first time we had any chance to meet someone from Shynola who we have been fans of for ages. Played then after Jason's talk and afterwards chilled with everyone and also the lovely Sunitha from the BC in KL. The next day we did a workshop in DVJing on Pioneer kit again at Maison and was surprised to see a massive turn out there. After that we just kicked back with our friends and enjoyed pools and trips around town. We still in KL now but tomorrow we leave for Hanoi in Vietnam.
Bangkok rocks. Massive Massive thank you to British Council and David. Also thanks to Andrew and Mod at Excessive for looking after us, showing us the town and making such an excellent party for us to play. We loved Bangkok , right now we rushing around Asia and the Middle East so sorry we didn't get to spend longer in Bangkok. We got off airplane and went straight to a workshop in a London Taxi no less. Workshop was excellent thanks to Pioneer for their continued global support. After that we had dinner (i love Thai food having it about 3 times a week in London at moment) and the authentic actually stuff was even better. Then we went off with Spike and Greg who we met through Greg Deocampo and our good mates at RES. I went to bed, Geoff went to bed and Ian as usual hit the town for an allnight party to experience Bangkok.
The next day we got up, Ian recovered and me and Geoff sat by the swimming pool “preparing” ourselves for the nights gig ahead. The Gig was amazing, club was packed and audience were amazing. Thanks to all of you who came. They dug everything from 1930's Marx Brothers movies to bang up to do date breaks and drum&bass. We almost couldn't sleep at all because of the energy given to us by the crowd. So we went back to hotel, slept 2 hours then took our London Taxi to the airport. Currently writing this on the airplane where we are en route to Kuala Lumpur to meet with our good friend Lianna and play at Maison. Thanks to British Council for making this all possible we are loving it!!!!!! Must add the Thai people are lovely , beautiful in fact so nice, kind and welcoming. And have the say Malaysian airlines has just about best airline food i have ever tasted. More soon.
We off round a bit of the world Asia & The Middle East
So we got to NYC last week to play for BA at Time&Life building. Thanks Carrie and GenArt for once again bringing us out to NYC. Friday we went with our US crew/handlers/business managers Eli & Greg of Mediatronica to Madhouse /Madtronica their base. We played on the Madtronica rootop penthouse at 240 Madison Av, where in fact we are still now, and had an excellent AV jam with Ladell on guitar. We have been looked after and set up so well by Laura, Rob, Craig, John and all the Madhouse crew. Special thanks to Laura for filming eveyrthing and running around so much for us. Gonna be hard to leave.
Then the magic and genius speed of Justin B and Baz of Learned Evolution, who pulled us together a Friday night gig at Galapagos in Brooklyn with just 48 hours notice. Club was packed and we loved every moment. Massive thanks to Karl Detken at Pioneer US for sorting all the equipment needs for the weekend. Also big thanks to C-TRL Labs for helping us out whilst in NYC.
We here for a few more days before a weekend at home then off around Asia and the Middle East. Also our remix of U2's Vertigo, both audio and video, is coming our ultra soon, more to come.
Also going to be a screening of the Method's recent video remixes early on in evening as well as full Method AV Set later on. PLUS brand new PODCAST for 07 up now.
U2 have asked us to mashup their videos and other materials mostly exclusively for members of U2.com but some ultra secretive U2 underground shizznizz out there. First thing up is a remix of the Classic ZooTV Tour which features heavy usage of the Pioneer DVJ to scratch up the Edge and ZooTV fans in the ZooConfessionals booth as well as the excellent Disposable Heros of HipHoprisy. Also original videos on the stage show back in 90s was done by EBN so fitting that there should be a video remix. U2 contacted us after passing across a video of ours on youtube. The internet eh....
We were in Singapore for Resfest at Zouk. Was Wixkid thanks to Aldrin and Ninja for taking good good care of us. Loads of photos and videos filmed which we will put up when we catch up with ourselves. From there we went to Dublin to do a Matrix party where we remixed the Matrix movies live with usual Method Music Video Mixery going on. Kick punch Kick Kick Punch. From there we went to Cardiff to play the Excellent Secret Garden who run the massive inflatable church at Bestival. Great fun, we were driven there and back by Tabs and arrived back at Dawn all going to sleep except Ian who went to New Zealand. Then me and Geoff went to Manchester to play in venue inside a new Virgin Megastore there. We got to meet Mighty Boosh crew play them remix we did of the Boosh which we got thumbs up and thankyous for, thanks boys. Was great night, now i'm going to sleep for a day or two.
The Palm remixes continue with FREESTYLE vs SCRATCH. Two excellent documentary films. The first "Freestyle:The Art Of Rhyme" has been a favourite of ours since it's release in 2000 featuring Mos Def and young but already completely Masterful Biggie Smalls. The Second "Scratch" by Doug Pray is the perfect partner for cutting with Freestyle featuring the history of the scratch DJ and every single thinkable Scratch DJ Alive featured.
We've been all over the place on our travels. Playing a tent in the gardens of Fulham Palace, a film festival in Budapest.
We also played Roundhouse recently with Killa Kella, thanks Celina for the footage! Last week we gave a "masterclass" at Pioneer HQ with James Zabiela before heading of to Hamburg to play the excellent BitFilm festival and give a talk, chat.
This weekend we are off to Singapore for our first date of the ASTONISHINGLY excellent RESFEST, which we will be playing at various ones all over the globe in 2006/7. Our UK TV Show is kicking off soon. It's going to be called.... get this.... Eclectic Method, what you think?
Wow it's a rollercoaster as usual. We just finished Jamaica megamix for Palm Pictures, got Freestyle VS Scratch remix out in a week or so, making mashups for some band we maybe shouldn't mention yet. Brand New Spanking mix DVD out next month (barely time for copywrong infringement these days). New podcast. Check Jonny jamming on DVJs in his kitchen. Check all the new method videos on youtube. Also a Brazilian remix no less. F**k it there's loads of shit we've made recently, you can find it spread out on the web. We were judges in the recent DJ MAG tech awards, out nowish maybe it's too late already. Man I shouldn't write these things when i'm wasted. Next stop Budapest. More soon.
Tokyo was rollercoaster of fun, Bestival was rocking and New York was amazing as usual. It's that time again to vote for the Top20VJs in DJ Mag. We're playing with Xpress-2, The Bees and Killa Kella amongst many others at the Roundhouse at the end of the month.
Extensive load of photos of our travels up on the Cutswift photo album as well as the eclecticmethod one. Also photos of recent NY trip from our boy Robotkid.
Had a sleepless weekend last week at Es Vive in Ibiza with Barry Ashworth. Absolutely joyous gig and weekend, thanks to Hugo and Davis for tech support/poolside craziness. We working on a Music Video Mashup mix show for UK TV, also another EM DVD Video Mix Album on it's way before the end of 06. We got two weeks off for relaxation and mixery then we're off to Tokyo and the Bestival. For now check out some of our random videos and remix projects we haven't had time to put up yet:::: Indiana Jones Movie Remix, California Uberalis, RedHotChiliPeppers megamix, Prince Megamix, The Mighty Boosh Mashup and The Sopranos Remix, Albama 3 (drum&bass remix),Kevin Powder explaining the Fatboyslim Megamix and WOO YOU SWEAT.
Plus check Pat&Trevs footage from EM at Lovebox festival.
LA was lovely and warm, spent the rest of our time chilling in Venice. Then flew onto Sydney saw another beach from the otherside of the Pacific. Sydney was great the mostly lively Getty gig so far, although we were all completely knackered by the 6 long haul flights in a week and took pretty much till our final day there to wake up. We came back lay down for 18hours and went to Cadiz for an excellent party with DJ Vadim. After that gig we all fell asleep for pretty much a week before heading off to Barcelona for the astonishing Mataro Beach party for Saint-Juan celebrations. About 4,000 people showed up on the beach till sunrise, seemed about 1,000 of them had rockets. Amazed to see kids as young as 7 getting to grips with launching explosives. Back to London for the final Getty Images tour gig at Aka bar in London and since then been watching the world cup unfold an England get kicked out.
Heya we back from New York. Spent the week mostly with Greg Deocampo pottering around NY. Massive massive thanks to all Res crew JT, Jeremy, Justin, Baz, James, Su and also to DJ Spooky for showing us around as he always does. Spooky is in London this week playing at the Tate Modern. The show at the Hiro Ballrooms was astonishingly fun. ....
April has flown past. This month we were at the MOCCA in Toronto, back in Southampton at the newly done up Orange Rooms. Most recently we visted Berlin for only our second time to play the Rip It event , Cartel Communique and Osymyso were also present. Although we missed Osymyso because he missed his flight first day so we spent the night with Jonny & Mike (Cartel) and Sascha (Twen FM Berlin). Next night was Geoff's birthday and also The Method's 5th birthday and we flew (via Malaga) to Bilbao in Spain. There we did a red bull music academy talk workship thingy and discovered one of our DVJs had gone wonky in flight. Massive Massive thanks to Raffa for getting our technical issues sorted at short notice. We played that night in Bilbao mostly thanks to Raffa. Next day we had a whole day to chill with Raffa and Roger (our Spanish) and John and Ziggy from our management, ate a lot of food, sat in the sun and visited the amazing Guggenheim.
We are going on our first world tour, an organised one. GETTY IMAGES presents Eclectic Method will see us visiting New York, LA, Sydney and London (stopping off in Sao Paolo Brazil along the way). Also the FATBOYSLIM dvd "why make videos?" has been set for a release on 17th July. The DVD features our full length AV remix of Fatboy's tunes and Videos, a shorter edit has been aired on MTV Europe. More on this as July approaches. Eclectic Method's first VIDEO PODCAST is up now more to come in sporadic future. Also check these cheeky RHCP mix.
Next weekend we are in Barcelona for the URBAN FUNK festival.
The Method have just finished an official AV remix of the trailer for the new Antonio Banderas movie "Take The Lead". You can check it out on youtube & medicine films. We also recently made a cutup of the new Milla Jovavich movie "Ultraviolet".
The Method have been selected as one of Res Magazines "RES 10" artists , feature out in next issue of RES and there is also a DVD featuring work from The Method and other RES 10 artists.
We rarely film our live shows but now we've put up two long clips from our recent gig at Dirty Disco in Leeds. It's the projector feed (so just what you're seeing on screen):
Part One
Part TWO
Zemos 98 have also put up clips of the method live in Seville, clip one , clip two
Wow , what a lovely weekend. First up we were in Waterford, Ireland last weekend for St Paddie's Day at the Bowery Rooms. Was excellent, Waterford is pretty much our second home away from home, due to this we rarely sleep when there. So we spent all night up with Luke, Shuan and Stress and were rushed to Dublin airport at lightning speed in the morning by Oscar, excellent driver and super sonic aircraft pilot. So arriving in good time for our flight we then discovered it had been cancelled. Our plan had been to fly to Barcelona then on to Seville. Anyways we managed to get a flight to Madrid instead and Ruben from Zemos in Seville kindly and way beyond the call of duty came to Madrid to meet us and take us down to Seville. Finally made it, our gig was delayed 3 hours (so so sorry) but still was rammed, seats and space infront of the stage. Luckily we stayed in Seville till the Monday and managed to both go out and enjoy the town and sleep, a rarity for us after gigs. Massive massive thanks to all the Zemos org for taking care of us especially Ruben and Benito.
There is a bit up on the zemos site about and also short video clip of the show.
Let Battle COMMENCE!!! We are off to Toronto on 1st April to do AV Battle with 3 other global video acts. Looking forward to it a lot. Check the message:
Pinch punch. No returns.
Amusing (for us, anyhow) photos from barcelona at http://www.nanus.org/fotografia/
Our heads are down right now, having been working on future DVD project stuff, poring over remixing sticoms for a TV company and making a trailer for a bonafide Hollywood movie. Looking forward to the weekend in Leeds - we're going to film and record the set for once, so expect some live clips at some point.
It'll be nice to have a dancefloor to play with - it's been a couple of weeks and our trigger fingers are itchy...
Gosh we love Barcelona. We were there again this week to play at Pacha, which was amazing, we had to leave immediately in the morning so we didn't sleep and instead spent the whole night up, thanks to Ana for looking after us. Check out KEVIN POWDER BREAKZ it's f&*^ing funny.
We spent a week in california, san francisco bay area. First up massive thanks to Jeremy, Justin, Baz, JT, Chris and all the Res folk for looking after us and organising it all. Massive thank you to Heather and also all folk at Loaded like Joe who organised an excellent friday night sold out party for us to play at. Earlier in the week we gave a talk, demonstration, techy sort of discussion with Apple people at Apple Headquarters in Cupertino. Also with us was our old friend Paul D.Miller aka DJ Spooky aka That Subliminal kid, Ben Stokes an excellent AV live performer and remixer based in SF who works with Meat Beat Manifesto and DJ Shadow amongst many other acts and also our new good good friend Greg Deocampo , of EBN and so many other things you need an entire server to store a list of it. We've been working with Greg online for a few weeks now so getting to hook up was solid, and fun.
Computers are back on and we're remixing, check the downloads page and portable video folder stuff. We're off to Barcelona again next week, been looking at the times we've got 4 plane flights in 3 days coming up and wondering if we might have made a mistake. It's our livers I'm worried about.
Hey up long time no writings, so much to tell, it's coming. This Friday Night we are doing a Breakz AV live set at Club 44 , 93 Feet East, London. Also check flyers for one of the california dates.
Happy New Year. Thanks to all who came last night to the Cargo party. Eska was excellent, Gilles was great we had great brining everyone into the new year and then getting pished with everyone, ian still isn't home. Time to take a few days off but loads going on. New website as you might of noticed, plenty of hidden bits to check out as well. We put up a few treats in mp4 format for you portable video users ipod videos, psps. Enjoy 2006.
We've been keeping fairly schtum about our FatBoySlim video projects, but the time has come to mention it. Basically we mashed together all of FatBoy's music videos into one megamix a while back. The results are being released in the 2006 but FatBoy is now using one of the edits as an intro for his live shows. You can check it out for the first time this weekend (16th/17th Dec) at FatBoySlim's shows at the Brixton Academy in London.
We were in Barcelona recently, we played the RES TOUR and another club outside of barcelona the next day.
This is Raffa who was looking after us and our mates for 3 days off madness, which envitably ended up by the rooftop pool. Thanks also to Montxo and Ana.
We also been around on our christmas party missions, we were down in Southhampton we did Stop The War at the London Astoria with Brian Eno, Nitin Sawhney and others. We have a DJ mix coming up on The Rinse Show on XFM on Saturday night, 17th Dec. The We're Not VJs DVD is now available online from protein as well. Check Mixmag and DJ mag for mention/article on the method. We've got our classic Xmas video mix up for download now on the downloads page. Also we are playing New Year's Eve at Cargo with Gilles Peterson.
Sometimes so much is going on that I dream about remixing videos, i'm still in front of a computer. The latest issue of DJ Mag has a feature on the Method. We have been putting up shedloads of our videos on the EMULE sharing software, just look for eclecticmethod. On 27th Nov we are playing with Brian Eno & Nitin Sawhney for Stop the War at the Astoria in London. DVD is now also available from Protein and being distributed in Japan by P-Vine. Also we just confirmed we will be playing New Year's Eve at Cargo with Gilles Peterson. Also this week we have been cutting up videos for the House Music Awards, we will be there.
We've had several thousand downloads in the past two days so we've streamlined the downloads page a bit and will be re-organising our bandwidth in the next few days. Last weekend we had a guest dj set on Dublin Radio, tomorrow we are apparently doing an interview on Radio Beat106 in Glasgow. There are some guest dj and dvj sets coming from us on Samurai FM online very soon, also we're heading off to the US west coast at the end of the month, more on that soon.
One of the lasting memories of the RES tour will be james on the speaker stack with mask and toy guitar.
Had an amazing three days last week. On Thursday we played an absolutely rammed Fabric with the Scratch Perverts, was an amazing start to our weekend of gigs.
On Friday we were up at Clare College in Cambridge playing in the Cellar , the crypt actually, some dead guy was buried under the stage. On Saturday we did our final date on the Res Tour 2005 in Bristol, thanks to everyone who came. Also on Friday am we found out that we came no.3 in the world's top VJs in DJ Magazine (thanks to everyone for voting) , up 8 places from last year. Hexstatic came a deserved number 1 and Addictive TV have gone down one place. Also you can now check an article about the Method in the Malaysian magazine Plan B.
Just now awaking from Glasgow. We played with Cassette Boy and DJ Rubbish, Cassette Boy are genius their live show doesn't make sense when explained but so good when you see it, so I won't explain, go see them. Last weekend we played again at Cargo, Saturday night, was rammed , thanks to everyone who came. Kerri Chandler who happened to be playing the night before at Cargo came up to say thanks for mixing up his tune with various videos. We've been playing Kerri's "Bar-a-Thym" track everywhere we go these days.
What a great night at NFT for ResFest. The DJ Yoda jam was great fun, we played on a huge cinemascreen which had been split in half with, one side of screen for Yoda and the other side for us. It was a bit strange playing a 2 hour set of hiphop, movies, house, breaks, pop and rnb infront of a seated audience. Two girls even got up and danced, good bless 'em. Anyway we've been talking about doing a joint show with Yoda for about a year now and it was a real privilege to finally get to do it. Thanks to all at res for making it happen.
This Saturday we are playing Umami at Cargo. We will be playing a night time set but also from 5pm onwards we will be showing the "we're not vjs" dvd and talking and just generally hanging about, also DJ Raj Pannu will be performing a live turntable / delay / fx mashup which will knock you sideway's. Free entry before 8pm.
It's all go at the moment. We just finished an official music video megamix for XL Recordings, we made one for Fat Boy recently as well. The XL Megamix is going to be available for download from their site and features videos from Dizzee Rascal, Basement Jaxx, The White Stripes, MIA, Lemon Jelly and the Prodigy amongst others. This Sunday is the first show with us and DJ Yoda as part of Res2005 at the NFT in London. It's an going to be a an impressive large set up we've been jamming it together a bit already and we're using 3 Pioneer DVJs , 2 turntables, 2 CDJs a Laptop and 3 Pioneer 909 scratch fx mixers. We got two screens and us and Yoda are going to play on each and together in semi battle semi jam mode. More Yoda Method dates coming soon. We're Not Vjs our music video mix DVD is out now, you can buy it online from Ninjatune, you can also now get NTSC versions in the US from Groove Distribution. It's also available from a few shops in Europe, The US and Japan more on that soon. DJ Mags Annual top 20VJs thing is nearly closed, today i think or maybe tomorrow. Also earlier this year we played the Kung Fu Hustle premiere party in Cannes and never got round to mentioning our remix, enjoy.
