Mexico City was wicked. So much fun. Thanks to Adan, Mariana and Romina for looking after us. We discovered the delights of mescal , rocked a party, visited the Zoo and went to Adan’s birthday in a church. We slept the whole flight home. Right now I’m preparing now for SXSW in Austin. 5am flight. I am playing 9 gigs in 7 days. And right now Geoff and Ian are on a plane from London to Mexico, they are playing tomorrow night in Puebla. Whilst they are doing that I am playing the Ustream party in Austin with Gym Class Hero and Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz.

USTREAM – SXSW – Friday, March 12 Event Invite from Eclectic Method on Vimeo.

The Ustream party is being streamed on Ustream so you can all tune in on the official SXSW Ustream page. The show takes place 8pm till Midnight CST Time. Then Saturday night is the TUMBLR VS SOUNDCLOUD VS KICKSTARTER party.

We’ve set up a soundcloud page for some of our tunes/remixes. We’ll of course be overtweeting from SXSW. Last year at SXSW was the first time I saw the geographical fun of twitter. The festival is spread out over one chunk of city so becomes easy to post your location, out of the blue occurance or secret party location and then get to it quick.

Being that there are 9 Eclectic Method shows in 7 days, i have been furiously burning DVDs and CDs from our archives and of new stuff so that every show can be a completely different experience for me. Looking forward to not very much sleep, lots of partying and seeing my good friends Sharri and Paul in the same place for the first time ever.

Oh also we put up some snippets from the Copyright Criminals Documentary. One more flyer…. why not?

*** they put us at the bottom of this flyer, so i put them last

On way back from San Francisco on a plane, yey onboard wifi. Just been having an excellent few days in San Francisco with JB and my good friend Sharri. Also I have only recently passed my driving test so it was my first trip around Cali and SF in a car with me in control. Wish I had had a camera in the car to capture Justin and Sharri’s shocked faces as I learned the intricate ways of getting a car up a 45 degree angle. On our first day Open Video Alliance invited us to give a talk at Stanford University, we gave our talk directly after Lawrence Lessig gave his talk from Harvard all streamed live on the interweb. Had a great time at Stanford before rushing to In & Out Burger to get our fill, been time since i had In&Out. Saturday night we played the Bootie party at DNA Lounge. It was our third time at Bootie and it just gets better every time, DNA was packed and the audience were mad up for it. Thank you so much San Fran!

Things are quite hectic right now. During March we are heading to Mexico, Miami and a full 10 days at SXSW in Austin. I think we are playing about 42 times at SXSW. On top of all that I just moved into a new apartment and am getting a grand total of 5 days home this month, although escaping the winter wonderland that New York has become is no bad thing. You might have seen we recently put out Rock & Remix 2, Jersey Shore and Computer On. Computer On is part of a bunch of interactive remix toys we got in production can’t wait to talk more about it but i presently banned from saying any more then that…. watch this space. We also working on a track with Chuck D, a new mixtape and as usual a million things in the pipeline. Tomorrow night we are doing a party with Adrian Grenier in NYC before heading to Mexico City. Also wanted to say a mad thank you to Rob Da Bank for repeatedly representing for and supporting the Method in the UK.

The Copyright Criminals Documentary is about to be released on DVD. Also this Tuesday 19th Jan 2010 it’s showing on PBS and to celebrate both those facts we are playing the launch party at the Brooklyn Bowl.

“…an amazing documentary on the history of sampling” -Rob Sheffield. Contributing Editor, Rolling Stone

USA Today calls Copyright Criminals “…a compelling and insightful documentary illuminating both sides of a hotly debated issue.”

Copyright Criminals features a bunch of interviews with legendary sample/musical cuttery folk like Matt Black, Mix Master Make, Hank Shocklee and DJ Qbert. It also features interviews with some people who have been notoriously sampled like George Clinton & Clyde Stubblefield. Also we did a interview about what we do in terms of video remixing and made a bunch of video remix segments for the documentary.

Here’s one of the mixes we made for Copyright Criminals:

And here’s the trailer...

Thanks to everyone who came to NYCWTF on saturday, was an excellent party. We finished the Wu-Tang Clan Mixtape. We been planning and thinking about this for a while. Me and Ian have spent the last few months chucking back and forth intricate cuts of Wu Samples. The mix features tons of Wu Clips from music videos, interviews, films they’ve appeared in but we also cut up the kung fu movies that wu sampled into the mix. Not just the spoken word bits but also making beats out of the fighting. I’ve been super obsessed with the idea of beats, rhythm made of kung fu fighting for a long long while now. Wu was the perfect mixtape to match up the sick hip hop with the sick fighting beats. Anyway all this got me thinking about the fighting remixes we’ve done over the years and so i tried to locate some of them on the interweb:

Kung Fu Beats

Streetfighter Jam on SVM

Snake Worship Island

Streetfighter

Kill Bill Remix

Sopranos Remix

GTA Vice City Remix

Bass Rutten

The one i can’t find right now is the Bruce Lee remix we did an age ago. Man I love kung fu movies!

We loves us some Wu-Tang. We been working on this a while now. It’s a mixtape dedicated to the Wu. Featuring wu music videos, interviews, live performances, clips from the kung fu films the wu sampled, beats made out of the kung fu and even a scene where Rza, Gza and Bill Murray kick it in Jim Jarmusch’s “Coffee and Cigarettes”. It all ends with a special dedication to the ODB. Shaolin!

Now I am preparing for our New Year’s eve gig…. We are supporting the excellent MSTRKRFT and Lotus in Philly, check out the video we made for the night. Wu Tang mixtape is done but we saving it for the first days of 2010. In February I am gonna go hang out in LA for a few months. Still gonna be back to the East Coast frequently but gonna go chill my snowed in bones in the sun for a bit. 2009 has been ridiculous. The most fun year so far for the Method from the crazy features on the Colbert Report and CNN to jamming with Chuck D on stage in Toronto. Thanks to everyone for making this year so fun for us.

We’ve been locked away cutting and collecting again. Most recently we went to Washington to play at the University then visit a frat house…. Also a brief jaunt over to San Jose where we met the Live Stream folk, San Jose show streaming here. We’re going to be doing Eclectic Method video streaming shows with LiveStream in the near future, they also have just launched their Iphone Streaming, which allows you to watch live streaming video on your Iphone over the cellular network.

Right now we are busy cutting at Kung Fu Movies and Wu Tang Clan and the movies relevant to the Wu for a forthcoming WuTang/Kung Fu mixtape. We are also working on a Christmas Video Mixtape updating our Haul The Decks mix from 2003.
